STOP PRESS - This screening will now be introduced by director Stephan Elliott!
This Pride month we're uplugging our curling wands and 'going bush, Felicia' as we welcome back to screen 1 (on it's 30th anniversary) the iconic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert. Hosted by our very own David Robson, we encourage you to come dressed up and ready for a sing/say a long to this beloved Oscar winning classic.
Three Sydney showgirls with problems – Felicia, Mitzi and Bernadette – are invited to play a four-week cabaret engagement at a resort hotel in Alice Springs, in the middle of Australia’s red desert. It seems like the perfect opportunity to leave their troubles behind them, at least for a while, but the trip isn’t as straightforward as it seems: Felicia and Mitzi are drag queens and Bernadette is a transgender woman, and meeting their type in the outback is not a normal occurrence. Naming the bus they are to travel in Priscilla, and cramming her with a gaudy assortment of frocks and stilettos, they set off with music blaring in the direction of the Outback. Along the way they break down, dress up, perform in unlikely places and encounter hilarity, hostility, incomprehension and acceptance.
Make the extra effort and join us in the bar before the screening for a pre-screening party with a decent cocktail and lots of Abba!
